Sources say arrested Inter RAO exec worked on pwr supply to Crimea

MOSCOW, Jun 25 (PRIME) -- Karina Tsurkan, an executive of Russian power producer Inter RAO, reportedly arrested on suspicion of espionage, participated in Russian power supplies to Crimea across Ukraine in 2014–2015, sources in the energy industry, told PRIME on Monday.

“She worked to organize a scheme of supplies when it was only discussed and continued to work on the issue when the supplies started,” one of the sources said and the others confirmed.

Inter RAO signed an agreement to supply power to Ukraine with Ukrinterenergo for a year in 2014, and an affiliate of Inter RAO signed a deal with Ukrinterenergo to supply power to Crimea, the supplies to the peninsula stopped in November 2015 after blasts of the power line supports.

According to an earlier report by newspaper RBC, Russia’s Federal Security Service suspects Tsurkan of leaking data on supplies to Crimea and the east of Ukraine to Romania.
